西村画廊では、2022 年9 月13 日（火）から10 月15 日（土）まで、当画廊が1974 年の開廊当初から継続的に展覧会を開催しているデイヴィッド・ホックニー、ピーター・ブレイク、リチャード・ハミルトンのプリント作品によるグループ展を開催いたします。

現代で最も重要な画家の一人、デイヴィッド・ホックニーが、絵画のみならず版画や写真の領域でも既成の美術を大きく刷新してきたことは広く知られていますが、本展では、その多岐にわたるホックニーの仕事の一端を展覧します。1980 年代、ホックニーはかつて自身が中国絵画の絵巻の中に発見した「移動する視点（ムーヴィング・フォーカス）」を、複数の視点のコラージュ的な構成によって絵画、版画、写真上で表現しましたが、本展ではその内の一つ、版画シリーズ“Moving Focus” から、代表的イメージである《An Image of Celia, from the ‘Moving Focus’ Series》（1984-86）を展示します。また、コピー機を空間のないカメラとしてとらえ、インクの代わりにトナーを用いた、カラー・コピーによる1986-87 年の版画シリーズ“Home Made Print”、当時の最先端のデジタル技術を駆使して出力した1990 年代のデジタル・プリントのシリーズ“20 Photographs”、 2010-11 年のiPad によるドローイングのシリーズ “The Yosemite Suite” の他、2019 年の大型画集《David Hockney. My Window》特装版のためにプリントされたiPhone ならびにiPad のドローイング、そして今年発売された豪華画集《David Hockney. 220 for 2020》も併せて披露します。

ピーター・ブレイクは、1991 年の版画作品 “Alphabet” シリーズから2 点、リチャード・ハミルトンは、マルセル・デュシャン《彼女の独身者たちによって裸にされた花嫁、さえも》（1915-23）の花嫁を裸体で表し、その姿を「独身者たちの領域」と共に「鏡の送り返し」として合成した《A mirrorical return》（1998）など、2 点の代表的な版画作品を展示します。

今日の美術に多大な影響を及ぼしてきた三人の作家のグループ展に、どうぞご期待ください。

Nishimura Gallery is pleased to present “PRINTS” an exhibition of print works by David Hockney, Peter Blake, and Richard Hamilton, from 13th September to 15th October 2022. We have been continuously presenting these three artists since the gallery opening in 1974.

It is widely known that David Hockney, one of the most important painters of our time, has revolutionized established art not only in painting but also in printmaking and photography. This exhibition will showcase some of Hockney’s diverse works. In the 1980s, Hockney expressed the “moving focus” which he had discovered in Chinese picture scrolls, through a collage of multiple perspectives in paintings, prints, and photographs; we will exhibit “An Image of Celia, from the ‘Moving Focus’ Series” (1984-86), a representative image of the series. We also show a series of “Home Made Prints” in 1986-87 using color photocopiers as a camera without space, and toner instead of ink, “20 Photographs,” a series of digital prints in 1990s which were made using the most advanced digital technology available at the time, and “The Yosemite Suite,” a series of iPad drawings in 2010-11. The exhibition will also include iPhone and iPad drawings printed for a special edition for large 2019 book “David Hockney. My Window.” In addition to that, just-released luxury book “David Hockney. 220 for 2020” will also be on display.

As for Peter Blake, we will present 2 prints from 1991 series of prints, “Alphabet.” We will also show Richard Hamilton’s 2 representative prints. One of them, “A mirrorical return” (1998), is a work tribute to “The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors, Even” (1915-23) by Marcel Duchamp. This print represents the bride depicted in that Duchamp’ s work in the nude and composites her figure along with the “realm of the bachelors,” as a “mirror send-back.”
