西村画廊では、2017年1月24日（火）から3月4日（土）まで、押江千衣子（1969年、大阪府生まれ）の個展を開催いたします。

1995年に京都市立芸術大学大学院を修了した押江千衣子は、ヨウシュヤマゴボウなど身近な草花を題材に、植物のあふれる生命力を豊潤な色づかいで表現し、同大学院在学中から注目を浴びました。植物との親密な距離を感じさせる、躍動とみずみずしさに満ちた押江の作品は、1997年に開催した当画廊での初個展でも高い評価を受け、2001年にはタカシマヤ美術賞、VOCA賞、京都市芸術新人賞を立てつづけに受賞しました。

その後、ヨーロッパ旅行をきっかけに風景も描くようになった押江は、文化庁新進芸術家海外留学制度で2003年から2年間滞在したベルギーをはじめ、熊野、岡山、岐阜など、訪れた土地の山や森、街角などを題材に多くの作品を制作してきました。2007年に田辺市立美術館、熊野古道なかへち美術館、和歌山県立近代美術館で開催されたグループ展『森のなかで』、そして2008年の当画廊での同名の個展においては、熊野の森の濃密な緑、ゆるやかに続く雄大な山々の連なりなど、豊かな自然の内に息づく清新な気配を大胆で洗練された構図の中に表現し、大きな反響を得ました。また、アーティスト・イン・レジデンス・プログラムで滞在制作と個展を行った大原美術館（岡山、2008年）とみのかも市民ミュージアム（岐阜、2012年）でも、同地の森の清涼な佇まいを堂々とした画面に描き出し、並々ならない実力を呈しました。結婚と出産を経て、7年振りの開催となった前回（2015年）の当画廊での個展では、家庭菜園の野菜など自身の毎日の生活に身近なものをモチーフに、ともすると見過ごしてしまいがちな植物の脆い生命を優しい眼差しと熟練した描写力でとらえた作品を発表し、さらなる展開を示しました。

当画廊7回目の押江展となる本展では、深い色の中に鮮やかな透明感を湛える最新作数点をはじめ、昨年5-6月のサクラアートミュージアム（大阪）の個展で発表した作品、5-7月に朝日新聞の連載『歌壇俳壇』のために描き下ろした作品の10数点を加えた、約35点のペインティングとドローイングを展示いたします。

約2年振りとなる押江千衣子の個展に、どうぞご期待ください。


Nishimura Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Chieko Oshie (b. 1969, Osaka) from 24 January to 4 March, 2017.

Chieko Oshie, who completed her graduate studies at Kyoto City University of Arts in 1995, attracted attention while still a student at the university for her use of familiar flowers and grasses, such as mountain burdock, to express the overflowing life force of plants through her rich use of color. Oshie’s works, full of dynamism and freshness, which give a sense of intimacy with plants, were highly acclaimed at her first solo exhibition at our gallery in 1997, and in 2001 she was awarded the Takashimaya Art Award and the VOCA Award, and the Kyoto City Art Newcomer Award in succession.

Oshie later began to paint landscapes as well after traveling in Europe, and she has continued to paint mountains, forests, and towns in places she has visited, including Belgium, Kumano, Okayama, and Gifu, where she stayed for two years from 2003 under the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Overseas Study Program for Emerging Artists. In 2007, Oshie joined a group exhibition “In the Forest” at Tanabe City Museum of Art, Kumano Kodo Nakahechi Art Museum, and The Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama, and had a solo exhibition of the same title held at our gallery in 2008, she depicted the fresh and clean atmosphere of the rich nature, including the dense greenery of the Kumano forest and the gently sloping line of majestic mountains, in bold and refined composition. The exhibition received a great response for its bold and sophisticated compositions. She also had a residency and solo exhibition at the Ohara Museum of Art (Okayama, 2008) and the Minokamo City Museum (Gifu, 2012), where she displayed her extraordinary ability by depicting the coolness of the local forests on her majestic paintings. In her last solo exhibition at the gallery in 2015, after seven years since her marriage and childbirth, she used vegetables from her vegetable garden and other familiar objects from her daily life as motifs, depicting the fragile lives of plants that we tend to overlook with her gentle gaze and skillful depiction.

This exhibition, Oshie’s seventh at the gallery, features several of her latest works, which are filled with vivid transparency in deep colors, as well as the works shown at hhe solo exhibition at Sakura Art Museum, Osaka in May and June last year, and more than 10 works drawn for the Asahi Shimbun newspaper serial “Kadan-Haidan” in May and July.
