西村画廊では9月11日（火曜）より10月6日（土曜）まで、恒例のグループ新作展「SEPTEMBER SHOW 2007」を開催致します。
出品作家は、定期的に当画廊で展覧会を開催してきた舟越桂、小林孝亘、町田久美、一色ちか子、樋口佳絵や、現在国内の美術館での巡回展が好評の三沢厚彦、また来年3月に当画廊での個展を予定している横尾忠則の7名です。
各々にオリジナリティ溢れる作品で注目を集めている7名の作家の新作21点を発表します。
個々に意欲的な作品にご期待下さい。

  
 

 

 Nishimura Gallery is pleased to present "September Show 2007", the exhibition of new works by the seven artists, from Tuesday September 11th to Saturday October 6th.The artists are FUNAKOSHI Katsura, KOBAYASHI Takanobu, MACHIDA Kumi, ISSHIKI Chikako, HIGUCHI Kae, MISAWA Atsuhiko and YOKOO Tadanori. Each remarkable and unique twenty-one new works of each artist will show where each of them are heading to at this pre　sent moment.

舟越桂　FUNAKOSHI Katsura　
1951年岩手県生まれ。1977年東京芸術大学大学院修了。東京都世田谷区在住。1985年より西村画廊で定期的に作品発表を行っている。楠を使った木彫の半身像に大理石の眼を嵌め込む手法で人物像を制作し、。詩的な佇まいと独特の静けさを備えた作品で国際的に高い評価を得ている。2003-4年に東京都現代美術館(MOT)など6館を巡回する回顧展を開き、15万人を超える入場者に感銘を与えた。近年は「スフィンクス」をテーマにした作品を発表し、その人格を超越した普遍的な存在感で新たな境地を切り開いた。今年10月から東北芸術工科大学で、来年春にはNYで10年ぶりの個展を開催予定。

Funakoshi was born 1951 in Iwate prefecture, graduated Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1977, and has been exhibiting his works in Nishimura Gallery since 1985. Now he lives and works in Setagaya, Tokyo. His major works are sculptures of half-length figure, marble-eyed and curved out from kusu wood, which is now internationally recognized and applauded for its poetic presence and keen sense of silence. In his recent years, he is working on series of sculptures which representing a symbolic character of "sphinx.” Its superhuman and universal existence is reinforcing more of his originality. Funakoshi’s solo exhibition will be held at Tohoku University of Art & Design, Yamagata in this October and also in N.Y. next spring.

樋口佳絵　HIGUCHI Kae　
1975年宮城県生まれ。1997年東北生活文化大学卒業。宮城県仙台市在住。2005年に西村画廊で初個展を開催。2005年宮城県芸術選奨新人賞受賞、2007年VOCA展で大原美術館賞受賞 。テンペラ特有の白く霞んだ優しい色彩を用いて子供の姿を描く。愛らしさの裏に潜む刺を繊細にとらえた作品で、新しいタイプの具象絵画として広く注目を集めている。来年秋に西村画廊で3回目の個展を開催予定。

Higuchi was born 1975 in Miyagi prefecture, graduated from the Tohoku Seikatsu Bunka College in 1997, and had her first solo exhibition in Nishimura Gallery in 2005. She lives and works in Sendai, Miyagi. In 2005, she was awarded Young Artist Prize of Miyagi Prefecture and Ohara Museum of Art Prize at VOCA 2007. Her major works are paintings, which are delicately capturing recollective and cinematic visions, usually of infants, lovely but carrying a sting on the other side, with gentle colors of tempera. Nishimura gallery is scheduling Higuchi's solo exhibition in the fall 2008.

一色ちか子　ISSHIKI Chikako　
1945年東京都生まれ。1969年東京芸術大学日本画専攻卒業。神奈川県中郡二宮町在住。2003年に西村画廊で開催された初個展では花を描いた油彩画を発表した。花の複雑な細部の表情まで追求した作品は、美しいだけにとどまらないありのままの姿を露呈した深い魅力をたたえている。本展では鶏を描いた作品を発表し、新たな展開を見せる。来年西村画廊で3回目の個展を開催予定。

ISSHIKI was born 1945 in Tokyo, graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1969. Now she lives and works in Naka-gun, Kanagawa prefecture. Her first solo exhibition at our gallery in 2003 presented a series of oil paintings of flowers. In the paintings, her proficient photo-realistic depiction in micro-detail, chasing complexity of nature, was very analytic, calm and modest, so to look into far deeper than surface beauty, and which feature may apply to all Isshiki’s works. This exhibition includes her new series of roosters. Nishimura gallery is scheduling Isshiki’s solo exhibition next year.

小林孝亘　KOBAYASHI Takanobu　
1960年東京都生まれ。1986年愛知県立芸術大学卒業。バンコクと東京に住む。1996年より西村画廊で定期的に作品を発表する。1996年ＶＯＣＡ奨励賞を受賞。食器、車のテールランプ、森の風景など日常的な題材を独自の表現で描く。絵具を塗り込めるようにして表現された静かな光が魅力的な作品を制作する。近年は人物を描いた作品を発表し、眠る人を描いた"小さな死"や日光浴する人を描いた“Sunbather”シリーズ、顔を画面いっぱいに描いた”ポートレート”シリーズで新たな境地を切り開いた。国内外を問わず小林の作品が持つ深い精神性が高く評価されている。来年西村画廊で個展を開催予定。

Kobayashi was born 1960 in Tokyo, graduated from Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts in 1986. Now he lives and works in Bangkok and Tokyo. He was awarded VOCA Encouragement Prize in 1996 and his solo exhibition in our gallery was held same year. Kobayashi’s major works are oil paintings of daily-life subject, such as tablewares, a bench at a park or tale lights of a car, although they are depicted in his unique way. Kobayashi uses heavily thick paint to express quiet light and mesmerizing stillness, and tries to reveal unseen in ordinary moments. In his recent works he is focusing more on human figures, including “Small Death” series, “Sunbather” series, and ongoing “Portrait” series, which are the first time for him to paint human faces with his/her eyes open. Kobayashi’s refined spirituality is now recognized internationally.

町田久美　MACHIDA Kumi　
1970年群馬県生まれ。1994年多摩美術大学卒業。東京都小金井市在住。2004年に西村画廊で初めて作品発表を行う。雲肌麻紙に墨、岩絵具などの伝統的な日本画の素材を用いて独自の世界を描く。細い墨線を幾度も重ねたストイックな線で構成された作品は、強いインパクトを以て見るものを魅了する。昨年東京都現代美術館で開催されたグループ展「MOTアニュアル　No Border-『日本画』から／『日本画』へ」で注目を集め、「第三回東山魁夷記念 日経日本画大賞展」にも選出される。2005年と2007年 のVOCA展に出品。「TIME」誌の現代日本画特集でも取上げられ、国内外を問わず現在最も注目されている作家の一人である。来年2月に西村画廊で個展を開催予定。

Machida was born 1970 in Gunma prefecture, graduated from Tama Art University in 1994. Now she lives and works in Koganei, Tokyo. Her first exhibition at our gallery was held in 2004. She uses such traditional mediums for nihonga, just as kumohada paper, sumi ink or mineral pigments, to paint nonesuch, among not only in the field of nihonga but also any other pictorial art today. Uniquely, she “paints” lines; in her works, each line is rigorous accumulation of extremely thin lines, and the lines are making strict compositions to symbolize her vertiginous ideas. She gained recognition in the exhibition “MOT Annual - No Border” at Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, in last year, and also participated the exhibition “Nikkei Nihonga Prize”. She is among the most remarkable young artists internationally at this present. Nishimura Gallery is scheduling Machida’s solo exhibition in February, 2008.

三沢厚彦　MISAWA Atsuhiko　
1961年京都府生まれ。1989年東京芸術大学大学院修了。神奈川県茅ヶ崎市在住。2000年西村画廊での初個展"Animals"で注目を集める。様々な種類の動物をいきいきとした魅力的なかたちで表現した楠の木彫作品を制作する。2001年平櫛田中賞、2005年にタカシマヤ美術賞を受賞。現在個展「ANIMALS+」が平塚市美術館を皮切りに、北海道立旭川美術館、高崎市美術館、伊丹市立美術館、ふくやま美術館を巡回し、親しみやすくユーモラスでありつつ、重量感のある作品が高く評価されている。

Misawa was born 1961 in Kyoto, graduated Tokyo National University of Arts and Music in 1989. Now he lives and works in Chigasaki, Kanagawa. In 2000, his first solo exhibition at our gallery, "Animals" was highly applaused. In 2001, he was awarded the Hirakushi Denchu Prize. His major works are wooden sculptures of various animals, lively, wild and humorous. The retrospective exhibition “ANIMALS+,” is now touring around Japan, which has started from Hiratsuka Museum of Art . The exhibition is evaluated as Misawa excitingly set a new aspect for wooden sculpture.

横尾忠則　YOKOO Tadanori　
1936年兵庫県生まれ。東京在住。1981年グラフィックデザイナーから画家に転向する。1986年に西村画廊で写真とセラミックの作品を発表する。また、2001年には「横尾忠則・ポール・デイヴィス　二つの人生」展で新作を発表した。2002年には東京都現代美術館、広島市現代美術館、京都国立近代美術館で各々個展を開催した。昨年パリのカルティエ現代美術財団で行われた個展は高く評価され、日本の代表的な美術家として現在も幅広く活動の域を広げている。来年3月に西村画廊で個展「温泉主義」を開催予定。

Yokoo was born 1936 in Hyogo Prefecture. Now he lives and works in Tokyo. His carrier started as a graphic designer, and afterwards since 1981, he states himself as a Painter. In 1986, Nishimura Gallery held his solo exhibition of photographs and ceramics, and also in 2001, the two-men exhibition with Paul Davis, titled “Two Lives,” was held with his newest works at the time. In 2002, his solo exhibitions were held at Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, Hiroshima City Museum of Art and National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto. Yokoo has been recognized as one of the most influential Japanese artist who works internationally. Last year, the exhibition at the Foundation Cartier, Paris was notably successful. Nishimura Gallery is scheduling his solo exhibition “Spaism” next March.
